History of Ukraine
9th century - The Kiev Rus state was founded. It was one of the most powerful states of medieval Europe.
988 - Prince Vladimir introduced Christianity as the official state religion
1240 - the Tatar-Mongols conquered Kyiv. The Tatar-Mongols ruled for almost three centuries.
1648-1654 Cossack armies - headed by Hetman Bohdan Khmelnytsky tried to liberate Ukraine
17th and 18th centuries - Despite repression from the Russian Empire. The country managed to preserve and enjoy some of the richness of its political, economic, cultural, and religious development.
1711 - The first Constitution appeared in Ukraine during the Cossack period.
January 1918 - the independence of Ukraine was proclaimed and the Ukrainian National Republic was established.
1917-1934 Bolsheviks established Kharkov as the capital of the Ukrainian Socialist Sovjet Republic.
1922 - Ukraine emerged as one of the founding reublics of the Sovjet Union.
1991 - Ukraine became independent again after the dissolution of the Sovjet Union.
2004 - The peaceful Orange Revolution.
2004 - Ukraine won first time The Eurovision song contest!
