The Seven Wonders Of Ukraine
The most important sights of our country - the 7 wonders of Ukraine - were selected in a national competition in 2007.
These are unique and wonderful places to visit to feel the cultural value of Ukraine.
Here are the 7 wonders:
1.The Kamenec Reserve

Kamenetz-Podolsky - the city that has the spirit of the Middle Ages. There you can find the Kamenetz-Podolskaya fortress - one of the largest in Ukraine. The Chronicle tells that the construction was started as a stone fortress Koryatovichami by a Lithuanian princess, who ruled between the years 1360-1390. The high rocky bank of the river Smotrych, the scenic landscapes, the majestic towers, the castle bridge ...
The old city is functioning as a unique complex of urban development area of 121 hectares. It is separated from the rest of the city by a deep river canyon Smotrych.
2.Lavra

On the high hills of the right bank of the Dnepr rises majestically crowned with golden domes of the Holy Assumption Kiev-Pechersk Lavra Monastery - the inheritance of the Blessed Virgin Mary, the cradle of monasticism in Russia and the stronghold of Orthodox faith.
Lavra began its existence in the year 1051 when prince Izayaslav, son of Yarloslav the Wise, became a regular visitor to this cave monastery and then he donated funds for the construction of the temple ground for the brotherhood that was becoming more popular by then. Then approximately the year of 1062 Reverend Anthony appointed the first abbot of Saint Varlaam, and he went to live for forty years in a remote cave.
3.The Sofiyivka Park in Uman

National park "Sofiyivka" is one of the major creations of the world's landscape art from 18th-19th centuries.
The park stretches on an area of 154.7 hectares in the territory of the ancient city of Uman in Cherkasy region. The park was established in 1796 by the rich Polish magnate Stanislav Potocki in honor of his Greek wife Sofia, and it was presented to her on her Angel day in May 1802.
4.The Sofia Kiev Cathedral

For almost a thousand year raising to the sky - the majestic dome of Sofia - the earthly embodiment of God's Wisdom. St. Sofia Kiev, the ancient residence of Kyiv Metropolitan, has played a leading role in the fate of Orthodox Russia. The Cathedral is the main pillar of the spiritual people, a symbol of immortality.
Its history is inextricably linked with the history of the state. The Cathedral of St. Sophia has witnessed many important events of the state's history.
5.Chersonese Taurian

Chersonese Taurian - the so-called Greek colonists based city from over two and a half thousand years ago (in the 5th century BC) in south-western tip of the Crimea. Today its ruins are one of the attractions of Sevastopol.
The word "Chersonese" is usually translated from the Greek as "the peninsula". This city-state was destined to live long - almost two thousand years - and its story is part of the history of the Ancient Greece, the Ancient Rome and the Byzantium.
6.The National Reserve island Khortitsa

Khortytsya - the largest island on the Dnepr River - the famous rich nature and the numerous archaeological finds of the Scythian times and the times before the Pechenegs Cossacks, who in the early 16th century established a Cossack republic in the center of the island and named it Zaporizhzhia.
Khortytsya Island still has echoes of the heroic Cossack past, and the Regional Museum has rare Scythian and Pechenezke artifacts.

7.The Khotyn Fortress

Khotin attracts tourists from all over the world. It is one of the oldest cities in Ukraine and it recently celebrated its 1000 years anniversary. Kyiv Prince Volodymyr the Great established a system of border fortresses in the west and south of the country, including Khotin.
At first it was small. It was built by the East Slavs in the place of the ancient settlement of a wooden fortress to protect them from the many conquerors. The historians have substantiated the thesis that the castle and the town Khotin have their origin from the very beginning of 11th century.
