Kharkov Excursion

Excursion route passes through the central part of the city. For your attention we present the historical center of Kharkov - University Hill, where according to written sources originates the history of our city. You will see many monuments associated with the past and present of Kharkov: from the legendary foundation until today. Among them:

-The Pokrovsky Monastery with a bell tower - the parochial Orthodox Church in Kharkov. The Cossacks built the The Pokrovsky stone building cathedral in 1689 - in the place of the wooden Protection Church (known since 1659). Also in 1689 Metropolitan Aavramiev sanctified the temple.

-Constitution square- one of the central and oldest squares of the city. Founded in 1659, simultaneously with the construction of the Kharkov prison. There is a monument to the Bolsheviks - the heroes of the civil war in the Soviet Ukraine;

-The Assumption Cathedral- the Orthodox Church, has its name from the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin. The bell tower of the temple during the construction was one of the highest in Russia, and before the 21 st century it was one of the highest stone building in Kharkov;

-The Opera and Ballet Theater- was organized in 1925 as the Ukrainian State Metropolitan Opera. Shows are inthe Ukrainian, Russian, French and Italian languages;

 

-Mirror stream - is one of the symbols of the city. Architect V.I.Korsha built it in 1947;

-Freedom Square - the central square of Kharkov. This well-known landmark of Kharkov is the 3rd or 4th largest square in the Europe. This square was called The Dzerhinksky Square before its name change to Freedom Square in 1996;

 

-Gosprom - The State Industry Building from 1928 (built in record time on unique drawings). In 1955- on the roof of the building - the first television tower was installed in the USSR in the height of 45 meters;
