Other cities of Ukraine

Ukraine - a country of beautiful nature with its mountains region in the Crimea and the Carpathians on the Black Sea coast. The country has many monuments - testimonies of the many cultures of different people living in the region of Ukraine: there are ancient burial grounds, Ancient Greek settlements and many other interesting places of historical value.

The capital of Ukraine - Kiev. It is one of the oldest cities in Europe. It was founded in the 5th century. The city is known as the mother of Russian cities. In Kiev you will find a lot of interesting sights: historical monuments, such as the Kiev-Pechersk Lavra from 1051. Thanks to its architectural merits the monument of Lavra has been included in UNESCO's list of world treasures. Also of interest are the caves of Kiev-Pechersk Lavra with the remains of famous people - for example Kievan Rus mythical hero Ilya Muromets, The saints Anthony and Feodosia Pechersky and The chronicler Nestor. And also from Kiev you can find the Golden Gate from 11th century, Vladimirskaya Gorka Park, The Andrew Spusk Khreschatyk Street, The historical center Podil, The Governor's House from 1780, the Mariinsky Palace from 1745-1752 and from 1752-1756 The Klovski palace of The River Pochayna which is known as the river where Vladimir baptized Kievans. The city has many beautiful, interesting and colorful streets.

After Kiev it will be interesting to drive to Pereyaslav-Khmelnitskiy. The town is decorated with charming streets and numerous museums. Another interesting city - very close to Kiev - is Kanev where the author Taras Shevcheno was buried.

The city of Chernigiv is located north of the capital. It is 907 years old and famous for its cultural and historical monuments: The Borisoglebsk cathedral from 12th century and The Transfiguration Cathedral from the 11th century. Also interesting to see is the architectural ensemble of Trinity and Eletskiy monasteries from 17th - 18th as well as the Pyatnitskaya Church from 12th century. The city of Kamenetz-Podolsky from the 11th century attracts also many tourists - The Turkish fortress from 14th - 16th centuries (rebuilt in the 17th -18th centuries). From this city you will find also the 16th century Gothic church - the Church of St. Peter and Paul's and The Cross Church from 18th century.

Dnipropetrovsk - one of the largest cities in Ukraine, was founded in 1776. Interesting sights there are for example the Palace of Potemkin from 18th century (now the Palace of the students) and the Transfiguration Cathedral from 19th century.

Poltava has a great number of architectural monuments: The Cross Monastery from 17th -18th centuries, the urban center from the 19th century, the Pillar of Fame from 1811. Then there are the various monuments dedicated to the Poltava battle from 19th - 20th centuries, The Field Museum of the Battle of Poltava, The Literary-Memorial Museum Korolenko and Art Museum are museums of interest you can find from Poltava.

Odessa is a picturesque city and is certainly worth a visit when in Ukraine. One of the most famous places is the pedestrian walkway in the heart of Odessa - Deribassovskaya Street. Tourists and local residents alike admire these beautiful streets: Pushkinskaya Lanjeronovskaya, Rishelievskaya and Moldovanka. Odessa is rich with many museums.

Lviv is an ideal place for tourists - it is actually an open-air museum. So it has rightfully earned its place in the UNESCO list of world treasures! These urban attractions of many numbers were built under the influence of Western European and Slavic cultures. It is a city rich in history. For example Lviv is famous for the fact that some of the first mechanically produced books were made there.
